John McKenna Jr. (17) started skating at age 3 at a "learn to skate" program at Sharper Edge ISI Skating School, Concord, MA. At an early age it was clear that John showed extraordinary talent, and passion for the sport. He started competing at the national level in 2002, and at age 13 he competed in the Junior National Championship were he placed 2nd overall. John was off the ice last season due to injury and is now working his way back. Skating for the Colonial Figure Skating Club (FSC) in Concord, MA, he is currently working on mastering the following technical skills.
2 jump combination -Triple Salcow/Double Toe Loop 2 jump combination - Triple Toe Loop/Double Toe Loop 2 jump combination - Triple Loop/Double Toe Loop Triple Flip Triple Lutz Butterfly Spin and other advanced spins New Edge changes and Edge combinations
Over the next 4 years, John plans to work on testing for both Junior and Senior skill levels. Each level takes 2 years of practice and dedication. John’s Olympic Goals look forward to the 2014 Krasnaya Polyana, Russa Olympics.
John is currently a student at Acton/Boxboro High School. He enjoys art, writing, computers, videogames and cooking. Besides tennis and skiing, John also strives to give back to the community by participating in many fundraising shows including Project Bread, Red Cross Hurricane Katrina, Jimmy Fund and the Lace-up for Leukemia charity skating events.
John passed Novice Freestyle test on June 14, 2007, and has enjoyed working with his coaches: Carrie Wall and Bobby Martin and the rest of his professional coaching team:
